\"\"<\/a>One of the strengths of the traditional church is the adherence to the historic Church Calendar, which takes followers on an annual journey through the phases of Jesus’ live, starting at Advent and moving through to his ascension. This takes us a full six months of guided meditation, which is then followed by the remaining six months which focus on God’s work in humanity.<\/p>\n

Today is the beginning of Lent, which is a period of 40 days (not counting Sundays) that focus our attention on Jesus’ journey to the cross and the cost he willingly endured for our sake. It is a common practice to give up some luxury for this period, but that seems to miss the point for me. Christianity is not about giving up some small creature-comfort, but giving up our whole life as we follow Christ’s example. Biola University has two major devotional periods each year, and with the start of Lent, I’ve included a link<\/a> to their devotional for this season.<\/p>\n

Join me and thousands of other Christians around the world who will be taking time to reflect on God’s love for us and commitment to us through Jesus’ journey to the cross.<\/p>\n\n\n
