In Christ Daily – Day 17
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5
Thought of the Day:
… great love … rich in mercy … made alive … were dead … by grace … been saved.
In two verses Paul has encapsulated the whole gospel, and none of it has anything to do with our actions or decisions. The heart of a loving God acted out of his rich mercy and made us alive with Christ. Paul is reminding us that we are as alive as the risen Christ, for no other reason that God wants to do it. It was an act of grace towards us from a God who wants us to share in his goodness and be in his presence.
Action of the Day:
Notice that God’s plan and actions were put in place while you were “dead in your transgressions”. If you feel that your sins are blocking God from moving in your life, write them on a piece of paper then seal it in an envelope. Write “Grace”, “Mercy”, “Love”, or “I am alive with Christ”. on the outside of the envelope and put it when you can see it each day. Let it remind you that your past is sealed and does not stop God’s loving mercy.
Prayer of the Day:
Loving and merciful God, you have planned for my best when I was at my worst. Thank you for making me alive with Christ.
