“LOVE Theology:
Seeing God Through the Lens of Love“
The Bible was written over a span of 1,500 years by approximately 40 authors, from diverse cultures and using various literary genres. When we assume that our Western mindset applies equally to all parts of the Bible, we risk misunderstanding scripture—and by extension, misrepresenting God.
‘LOVE Theology’ offers a layman’s perspective on why understanding the true nature of God is essential before interpreting every action attributed to God as part of God’s character. This book brings together and expands on many of Brian Hight’s blog posts from the past several years, uniting them under the central theme of seeing God through the lens of love.
It aims to explore the nature of God through this lens, challenging traditional Christian interpretations of scripture. The text delves into various themes, including the nature of God, the concept of sin and redemption, the role of scripture, and the importance of living out one’s faith in a way that reflects God’s love.
He emphasizes that the Bible is a complex and layered text that requires careful consideration of historical, cultural, and linguistic contexts. Hight further contends that God’s love extends to all creation, advocating for a holistic view of faith that encompasses environmental care as a vital expression of God’s love for the world.
The reader is encouraged to move beyond a focus on rules and dogma and instead embrace a holistic understanding of God’s love that permeates all of creation and guides all human relationships. The ultimate aim of the book is to encourage a re-evaluation of traditional theological perspectives and inspire readers to embrace a more inclusive and compassionate understanding of God as exampled in the person of Jesus.
