But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Thought of the Day:

Today’s verse highlights the centrality of God’s work in Christ. It reminds us that we have been brought near to God because of the cross.

As I write this, I am reminded of Jesus’s last words before he died, “It is finished”. The cross had achieved its purpose – it has brought humanity back to God. We who were far away have been brought near. It is the work of the cross that brings us close to God, not decisions we make or actions we take. It is God’s work on our behalf. The Last Adam has restored what the First Adam lost.

Action of the Day:

In hindsight, can you identify times in your life when God was moving in your life before you were aware of it happening? Make a list of those occasions and think about how they have led you to where you are today.

Prayer of the Day:

God of restoration, thank you for bringing me near even before I looked for you. I know that I sought you only because you were already seeking me. By the cross, you made a way back to your love.
