In Christ Daily – Day 21
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
Ephesians 2:14
Thought of the Day:
In today’s passage, Paul is talking to Gentiles – who were totally separate from Jews by culture and religion – reminding them that the barrier between them and God has been destroyed. God has made the two groups one. God’s peace in Jesus has dismantled the dividing wall of hostility that existed.
You may recall that when Jesus died, the curtain in the Temple was torn from top to bottom. We often think of this as a symbol that we can now approach God freely, but it also symbolises that God cannot be contained in our small sacred space. God has broken down the barrier and moved out of our limited religious confines so that all groups can be one.
Action of the Day:
Are there individuals or people groups who you think are excluded from God’s peace? Ask God to show you any barriers blocking God’s love that you have that might have which need to be torn down.
Prayer of the Day:
God of inclusion, thank you that there are no barriers to your love and mercy. Show me how to be your peace those who I want to exclude.
