Lent is one of the two major anticipatory seasons of the Christian church calendar. Practiced for more than 1,700 years, it offers enduring markers along the journey of faith—moments to pause, reflect, and rediscover God in fresh ways.
Metaphorically, this book is a series of benches along the path to the cross, inviting you to sit, rest, and reflect each day as you journey toward the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.
Lent spans 40 days, beginning on Ash Wednesday and culminating on Easter Sunday. This devotional follows the traditional numbering of the season, gently pausing on Sundays to reflect their celebratory rhythm. These pauses are used to reflect on God’s good creation as recorded in Genesis chapter one.
Each daily devotional invites you to read the verse, reflect on the thought, consider the action, and close with a prayer. Space is provided for you to record your own reflections, actions, and prayers. As you engage with the daily verse, ask the Holy Spirit to inspire fresh insights and applications that speak directly to your life.
This journey unfolds through a series of waypoints, but its focus is not on how to finish—it is on learning how to walk. We begin by setting out with Jesus, slowing our pace enough to notice what following him truly costs. As Lent progresses, we are invited to let go of self, to endure hardship, and to name the losses that accompany faithful obedience. These weeks are not rushed; they are often uncomfortable, yet necessary if we are to understand the way of the cross. As the journey reaches its heaviest moments in Holy Week, we are reminded that endurance is sustained by hope, and that resurrection is not an achievement to be earned, but a gift received.
