In Christ Daily – A Grace-Centered Daily Devotional

Some phrases in the Bible are so familiar that we hardly notice them anymore. “In Christ” is one of those phrases. Paul uses it over and over again in his letters, as if everything he wants to say about the Christian life comes back to these two simple words. For Paul, everything that matters begins and ends in Christ.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul tells us that the whole world was created in Christ. Everything that exists is held together in him. Every breath we take, every heartbeat, every sunrise — all of it is part of this one reality. When Paul says we are “in Christ,” he isn’t talking about a religious idea or something symbolic. He’s describing what’s actually true about who we are and where we live. Our hope is in Christ, our salvation is in Christ, our future is in Christ. There’s nothing that sits outside of him.

It’s worth asking who this “Christ” is that Paul keeps talking about. He doesn’t usually say we’re “in Jesus,” and that’s not because he’s avoiding Jesus — it’s because he’s pointing to something even larger. Jesus was the person who revealed Christ to us in human form. But Christ existed before Jesus was born. Christ was present at creation, the living Word who spoke everything into being. Genesis tells us that God created by speaking, and John’s Gospel reminds us that it was through the Word — through Christ — that all things came to be.

To be “in Christ” means we are part of something bigger than we can imagine. It means our small, ordinary lives are caught up in a much larger story. The same Christ who shaped galaxies holds our lives together when everything feels uncertain. The same Christ who breathed life into the world breathes hope into our hearts. To be in Christ is to know that nothing is wasted, and that every part of our story is held within his love.

Paul uses this phrase almost two hundred times in his letters, and about thirty of those are in Ephesians alone. That repetition isn’t random. It shows how deeply Paul lived this truth. He couldn’t talk about faith, hope, love, or salvation without circling back to it. For him, “in Christ” was the foundation for everything else.

This book is built around that same foundation. Each day begins with a verse where Paul talks about our life in Christ. Then there’s a short reflection — a thought for the day — to help us slow down and let the truth sink in. After that comes a simple action, something that connects the thought to real life. Finally, there’s a prayer, a reminder that we can only live this way through God’s grace.

We are in Christ, and Christ is in us. That’s not just a nice idea; it’s the truth about who we are. This is what God wants us to know — that we are loved, accepted, and secure because our lives are wrapped up in his.

To live in Christ is to rest in that love. It’s to wake up knowing we’re not alone, to walk through each day knowing we are held, and to go to sleep knowing we belong. My prayer is that as you read these pages, you won’t just learn about being in Christ, but you’ll begin to experience what it means to live every part of your life in him.
