A Prayer Practice
I’ll let you in on a secret – I live a conflicted prayer life. I struggle to find a balance between enthusiasm and obligation. Knowing I should do it yet, after doing it for more than 60 years, feeling that I’m an inept beginner.
I’ve settled into a sort of prayer awareness where I involve God in my thoughts throughout the day, but not as a formal prayer. In fact, I cringe at the thought of being asked to pray in a formal setting.
In an attempt to bring more spiritual practices into my life, I am trying a new deliberate prayer practice. Each day of the week has a specific focus, for instance,
- Sunday’s focus is the Church, church ministry, church leaders and members,
- Monday is Missions and missionaries we support,
- Tuesday is Thanksgiving,
- Wednesday is World issues,
- Thursday is for today’s needs,
- Friday is Family and friends, and
- Saturday is for people I know who are sick or suffering in some way.
I’ve made a document with headings for each day, and I add names of people or topics under each day. It helps me break down a large jumble of random topics into a manageable daily bites.
Do you have a Prayer practice that is helpful and meaningful to you that you would like to share in the comments below?
