Easter Saturday – The practice of waiting
Good Friday has passed and Easter Sunday has yet to arrive. Today is a day of waiting. In the Lenten series of Lectio 365, the speaker makes the comment that God does many things over a three-day period: When Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac, the angel intervened on the third day. Joseph’s brothers were thrown in prison and were released on the third day. Esther prayed and fasted for the salvation of her people, and the king changed his mind on the third day. The speaker asks why is there a day of waiting between conflict and resolution?
He suggests that discipleship unavoidably involves waiting.
I wonder what it would have been like for the disciples on the Saturday?
I wonder what all the people who visited Jerusalem for Passover thought of the torn curtain. Did the priests try to hide it so that no one would notice? Did they try to repair it before the Temple opened to the public?
What am I doing on my middle day between the drama and the resolution?
May this Easter be a time of drawing near to God as you wait for His coming. Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus.
