The Practice of Advent
Advent has been practiced in the Church for 2000 years, and remains a potent reminder of the first and second coming of Christ. The season of Advent marks the beginning of the church calendar, starting four Sundays before Christmas day. Each Sunday highlights an aspect of faith that culminates in Christmas Day with the birth of Christ.
Hope is the focus of the first week, followed by Love, Joy and the final week with is Peace.
I’ve not been in the habit of practicing Advent as a spiritual discipline, but this year, I have felt drawn to take time each day to anticipate and appreciate the coming birth.
To that end, I’ve found some web-based resources which I’m using, and I hope you’ll find them helpful.

“The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
